Okay, I enjoyed the history lesson as much as the next person, and HOLY SHIT THE PRETTY, but can we talk for a second about how the spirits turned out to essentially be alien invaders who had a perfectly fine world of their own to live in, but wandered into the human world just because they could - because the embodiment of evil made it so they could - then decided the natives of said world were Doing It Wrong and proceeded to oppress and terrorize them to the point where humans could only survive in walled cities guarded by the ginormous lion turtles they were built on, almost all cities coming to believe themselves the only human enclave in a world owned and ruled by spirits who more often than not despise them, consider them inferior life forms and will kill or disfigure them for life on a whim? Can we talk about how Wan only earned the respect of the spirits by deciding starvation was a good idea because aww poor animals, but then turning around and getting two of his own kind killed and another disfigured/mentally unhinged for life, because spirits and fucking ANIMALS both enjoyed greater social status than humans in the eyes of the foreign invaders? Can we talk about the constant assertions that Wan's "not like OTHER humans!" and how it echoes shit like "but I'm not like OTHER girls!" and how deeply fucked up and disturbing an attitude that is to have about anyone, least of all a member of an oppressed minority?
Can we talk about the mindboggling amounts of colonialist horror parallels in the humans/spirits relationship, and how the awfulness of it is mostly glossed over and the spirits are never actually made to answer for their appalling treatment of the inhabitants of the world they invaded because "lol carnivores and treekillers dontchaknow humans are jerks they need to be kept on a leash anyway"?
Because I just
I mean
show what the hell are you even
wat O_O
